Zaatar - Israel Travel Experiences is a young travel company specialized in out of the box tours and trips in Israel.
Za’atar is the name of a popular Mediterranean spice blend made of a mixture of local herbs such as oregano, thyme, basil and biblical hyssop. This color- and tasteful powder, spread on a good hummus or labane (local cheese), reminds us how rich and diverse is Israel’s cultural heritage. With Zaatar, travelers to Israel will experience Israel’s cultural, historical and ethnical diversity including all ingredients that will allow them to taste and savor this amazing and exciting country.
Zaatar is your one-stop partner specializing in out-of-the-box visits and tours, which mission is to provide you with all the ingredients that will allow to experience and enjoy this amazing and exciting country. For us these ingredients are encounters with locals, since we believe that the human aspect makes the difference, presenting different angles of the Israeli society as well as creative itineraries including out-door and fun activities.
In 2011 Sandra and Catherine, both licensed tour guides joined together and established Zaatar – Israel Travel Experiences.
Catherine Saïd-Shlesinger - left Zaatar in september 2022
Born in France, I have been travelling and living abroad part of my life. One of my favorite activities is looking around to get to know who, what, where and why - probably influenced by my scientific engineer background (I hold a degree in agriculture and environmental science), and my interest in people. I finally gained a guiding license here in Israel, and am enjoying all my passions at a time. In Zaatar, I am devoting my energy and European sensibility to provide curious and eager travelers with the opportunity to hear and to be touched by the many stories of Israel’s reality, past and present, sometimes controversial but always exciting.
Catherine left Zaatar in September 2022 and is working as and independant guide and tour organiser - firstname.lastname@example.org
Sandra Carmeli (1963-2022)
Born in Germany, Sandra immigrated to Israel at the age of 19. After majoring in Political Science and Communications and working in Marketing and as a Public Relation Manager for a variety of companies and organizations, she decided to make a change in her life. She felt it was time to promote the country where she lived, and raised her children. Her office was no longer the modern high rise building in Tel Aviv but rather the roofs of the Old city of Jerusalem, the wadis in the Negev and the lookout over the Sea of Galilee. Sandra passed away on February 14, 2022 and will be remembered as a wonderful and beloved person.
They offer daily Tours to the classical sights. Some are with guides, others take you to the sights which you can explore by yourself.
