ABOUT US

Zaatar - Israel Travel Experiences is a young travel company specialized in out of the box tours and trips in Israel.

Why  Zaatar?

Za’atar is the name of a popular Mediterranean spice blend made of a mixture of local herbs such as oregano, thyme, basil and biblical hyssop. This color- and tasteful powder, spread on a good hummus or labane (local cheese), reminds us how rich and diverse is Israel’s cultural heritage. With Zaatar, travelers to Israel will experience Israel’s cultural, historical and ethnical diversity including all ingredients that will allow them to taste and savor this amazing and exciting country.

Our mission

Zaatar is your one-stop partner specializing in out-of-the-box visits and tours, which mission is to provide you with all the ingredients that will allow to experience and enjoy this amazing and exciting country. For us these ingredients are encounters with locals, since we believe that the human aspect makes the difference, presenting different angles of the Israeli society as well as creative itineraries including out-door and fun activities.

In 2011 Sandra and Catherine, both licensed tour guides joined together and established Zaatar – Israel Travel Experiences.

Sandra Carmeli (1963-2022)

Born in Germany, Sandra immigrated to Israel at the age of 19. After majoring in Political Science and Communications and working in Marketing and as a Public Relation Manager for a variety of companies and organizations, she decided to make a change in her life. She felt it was time to promote the country where she lived, and raised her children. Her office was no longer the modern high rise building in Tel Aviv but rather the roofs  of the Old city of Jerusalem, the wadis in the Negev and the lookout over the Sea of Galilee. Sandra passed away on February 14, 2022 and will be remembered as a wonderful and beloved person.
